One of the most common and obvious cause is a dental problem, such as ill-fitting dentures, sharp edges to the teeth, biting inside of mouth while eating, etc... But immunity plays an important role!
This page provides all the information and support you need. We share information on cold sores: causes, symptoms, and treatments. There is also a Q&A service which gives you the opportunity to ask any further questions.
Cold sores are a common infection caused by the virus Herpes virus hominis. Two types of viruses are recognised, simply named Type 1 and Type 2.
Type 1 herpes infection is very common, and most adults will have had the infection at one time or another. The virus however can lie dormant in a few individuals, and recurrent cold sores are seen. This is particularly so if the individual has a weakened Immune system.
There are many possible causes, which is one of the reasons that these painful little sores are not that easy to resolve.
