It is normal for the prostate to enlarge after the age of 45 or 50. Having it checked out to make sure that it is not cancer is important before we assume that the enlargement is due to benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) and part of getting older. The condition does not lead to cancer later on in life.
If you are not experiencing any symptoms, then it may be best to leave well alone. If however, you are troubled with early symptoms such as having to wake up at night to go to the toilet, or find that your urinary stream is not as good as it was, then try using the herb Saw palmetto. Pumpkin seeds are said to help the problem so having these as a snack or meals (eg. in salads) can help.
